For the past 8+ years to present, I work in a 13 bed care home for mental health. The role and responsibilities of this position covers a large area of conditions.

In addition to this, I have also worked in another care home for people with learning difficulties and disabilities for 3 years (PMLD).

My other responsibility is that I also currently care for my aunt who has mental health problems.

My experience also covers that with working with the elderly people.

Formally I have my level 2& 3 NVQ in health & social care as well as up to date in basic training.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I have a many years experience in the care industry from young adults to the elderly, this allows me to have a broad range or relatability with all ages.

I believe that working as a PA you need -
* Patience, kindness, empathy, good listener, willing to learn, diligent, be punctual and above all, be caring.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I can provide support, respect, trust and confidence, patience.
I will work a long side the employer to help them make the right choices and decisions.

Encourage being more active in the community if they wish. Support them in any way I am able too.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I like the fact that you can choose who you work for and that the employer chooses you, which leads to a good working relationship. I enjoy the one to one engagement.

You have set hours and have the potential to have more hours if needed.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I love spending time with my family and friends.
I enjoying walking, swimming and the cinema, but also like just chilling and relax when I can. In addition to this I like to help my children school in community activities when possible.

I was arrested for drunk & disorderly almost 18 years ago. (when I was 18 years old) This did not come up on my last DBS, but on an old check many years ago. I have always told employers. Nothing came of the afference just a fine of £55.
