Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

From September 2016 until July 2018 I worked as a Home Care Assistant for Radis Community Care. I worked mainly with elderly individuals with varying degrees of disabilities. My duties included assisting individuals in and out of bed, assisting with showering, bed baths, changing pads and stomas, assisting with dressing, preparing meals and administering medication. Prior to working at Radis I completed the foundation degree in Community Health and Wellbeing at University of South Wales and I also volunteered at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Prince Charles hospital.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

Good listening Skills
Friendliness
Reliability
Knowledge of safeguarding policies

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I recognise the need for Autonomy and am able to recognise when an individual needs to do things independently and when it is necessary to step in and assist. I understand and respect the need for privacy and also believe I am able to help individuals to reach their full potential and make the most of their day to day life and activities.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I am a mother of four children and have always been a very caring and nurturing person. I loved my role as a home care assistant but would like to become a PA as I think spending all my working time with a single individual rather than 10-15 people a day will help me to have a bigger, more positive impact on their life.
