Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. *: Since I was 16 years old, I have cared for a severely disable man, who is now in his thirties. He relies on his daily carers to care for him including, feeding, bathing, changing and all round hygiene upkeep. Being a carer for nearly 10 years, this has given me such a positive and grateful outlook on life. Being a carer is rewarding and I could not imagine myself not caring for vulnerable people. In 2017 I became a Learning Support Assistant in Ysgol Y Deri, a school for children with special needs. In this role, it would be my responsibility to not only assist the children in the classroom and play ground, but help them with their toileting, and assisting staff to protect other children in the classroom. During my time at the school, I worked across the ages and ranges of disabilities, therefore I would using manual handling on a daily basis. I am very competent in manual handling and always comply with the training that I received.
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: Patience, Caring, Understanding, friendly, trustworthy.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: Encoring them to be as independent as they can (situational). Being there for them and supporting them to do certain tasks that they need assisting with. I.e, using the toilet but keeping their privacy.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: I love caring and helping people/children who need more assistance. Working with vulnerable people, is a daily reminder of how lucky I am.
What are your hobbies/interests?: I enjoy going to the cinema with family and friends, dog walks and beach trips.
