What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

The most important qualities to have when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person are patience, confidence, initiative and you have to be able to be flexible and adapt to their needs depending on the situation and circumstances. You also have to be compassionate.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I can help them with confidence, getting out within the community in a safe way and I can also provide them with company and have a laugh with them as well as making things fun to help boost their self esteem and happiness.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I have witnessed many others working in the job sector and so have experienced how it makes them feel as a person but also how it makes the individual feel knowing that they are able to have their independence back because they have a PA. I also want to help others and ensure that they are not socially isolated or secluded from society because of their needs being different to others. It’s also a great way to show them and others that no matter what everyone deserves to be treated with respect and as an individual with a unique personality to others, allowing them to see that it’s okay to be different and show them that they are the same as others but have a unique difference about them that makes them who they are.

What are your hobbies/interests?

My hobbies/interests are spending time in nature, being mindful and working with children when I have the opportunity to so that I can teach them something new and help them enjoy the learning process, ensuring that they know where the line is and understand what is right and what is wrong.
