I am an experienced health and social care manager with a background in project management, I.T confident and thoroughly enjoy delivering great customer care. I have excellent time management and am person focused. With experience in the social health service I am passionate that all members of community are able to connect, chose to live as independent life as possible and find meaning and joy in their life. I currently work for the third sector and my current project is ending its three year life cycle shortly and so I am seeking meaningful work where I can make a real difference to someone’s life and the wider community. A large part of my role was in developing and taking the home through the Eden accreditation process in order that all staff evidenced the Eden approach in their communication and care to people living within the home. Train and motivate staff to engage with clients creatively as appropriate to provide life enhancing care. Ensure that all legislative data completed and regulations complied with, and develop robust systems for client engagement within the home. October 2013 – 2014 Activity and events coordinator – Ashville Residential home Duties as above Sept 2011 – 2013: Sheltered Housing Scheme Manager, United Welsh Duties include: Overall day to day management of sheltered housing scheme Administrative tasks Completing person focused tenant support plans Coordinating a range of wellbeing and social engagement events and clus Ensuring Safeguarding/health and safety legislation adhered to While employed at United Welsh I developed and coordinated the Living Well Event, this was the first wellbeing and social event of its kind that the organisation had held for clients from all sheltered housing schemes. Also in attendance were various external partners, stakeholders and local government members. I held responsibility for the budget, venue hire, catering, coordinating external partners, activities and performances. Another project that I led on was the Tenant Calendar project, this was a tenant led project that captured through photographic images, important aspect of older persons lives. Due to the success of this event, it has now been scheduled on an annual basis. I also developed and coordinated the Tenant Sensory Garden project, securing funding, enlisting and supervising volunteers and local community to support the project. This required working in partnership with tenants in order that they were able to shape the development of the garden to meet their needs and abilities. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: I believe that when you are working as an assistant for someone it is very important to see the whole person and not just the disability. While it will be important that you do understand how their health/disability affects them, you must also see what they are able to do and their personality. What matters to them, their likes and dislikes and to be at times a good listener. It is spending time with someone to assist them to either continue doing what they like or maybe enjoy trying something new. I think being a people being a people person and enjoying ding something to brighten up someone elses day would be important and being able to learn about the person that you are working for and their hobbies and interests. You will be in the persons home for some of the time and so respecting their space is very important as is respecting the person and their boundaries. To be able to chat and both of you enjoy the time that is shared.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: It is important that the person that you are working for chooses how they spend their time, doing what they would like. If going out is important to stay connected to their community or attend show etc that is what you are there to in line with the contract agreement. Choosing when they receive the assistant ie time of day and what will happen. It is for the assistant to hear the how the person feels and to build a trusting and caring professional relationship.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: I have a background in creative arts especially for people with health issues and disabilities. I developed and run groups for people living in care homes with a range of health issues along with people in the community that are at risk of becoming isolated or feel bit lonely. I am also a health and social manager and so fully understand and appreciate the importance of enabling independence, being person/client centered and delivering a good service. I thoroughly enjoyed working in community, I have recently been working fully in an office and I miss being at the heart of the community with people, I would like to do something that brightens someones day and is really meaningful for the person. To bring someone some joy and enable them to continue to remain living and going things that are important to them.
What are your hobbies/interests?: I am a people person and enjoy conversation on a variety of topics. I like to go for walks and spend time out in nature. I very much enjoy going for a meal or a coffee, when I am able to I enjoy a trip to the theatre. I enjoy having a go at new activities and seeing people enjoy and try new things.
