Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

I am educated to degree level. I am 57 years of age and have experience of caring for my partner's grandmother during her later years. She also had Alzheimer's. I am caring, compassionate and patient. I have a good sense of humour. I am very reliable and have never taken time off sick from work. I am a "young" grandmother and enjoy spending time with my 3 grandchildren. I have previously worked in a residential care home and believe that I have the requisite skills to carry out this vacancy to a very high standard.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I am a mature individual who takes pride in my work. I am caring and compassionate and regard all people as individuals. I love to get to know people, discover their personalities, interests, quirks and nature. I understand that a person with Alzheimer's is easily frustrated and confused and I have a calm temperament and will do all that I can to prevent and diffuse a difficult situation. I believe it is important to take time with the person and to help them with their everyday tasks in a friendly and patient manner so as to allow that person to retain their individuality and personality.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

On a practical level I would assist with the day to day care of the person by assisting with personal hygiene, food preparation. I would love to walk and talk with them and to engage in conversation given them all the time that they need . I would be sensitive to the person's need to give them the personal space they would may require. I would encourage the person to be as independent as possible whilst being there as a constant to assist and support when needed.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I am a caring , compassionate and patient person and would love the opportunity to work with a person to get to thoroughly know them. I believe that this would be extremely rewarding and very worthwhile. I would love to make a difference to that person's life. Working with one person would provide me with the opportunity to focus on them and for us to mutually benefit from the work.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I love music, theatre and arts. I enjoy reading. I try to walk daily. I have three grandchildren and spend as much time with them as possible. I am avid Radio 4 and World Service listener.

I enjoy socialising with friends and being surrounded by family.
