During my role I assisted by guiding my client and his wife to be able to access activities out in the community ( such as shopping , walking , and local play centres for the children ) . This role give me such an deep insight of how rewarding a PA job can be as i was able to provide support in order for this family to gain independence again . I empowered these individuals by simply being there as a visual support and ensured that I gave them the freedom and independence and respect they deserve . I assisted in dressing and getting the children ready for school and getting both parents and children to school on time each morning . This is a position i thoroughly enjoyed and would love to gave the opportunity to continue this support
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: I believe that when working as a PA one must have an understanding approach , be empathetic and understand that each client has individual needs . One must be an excellent communicator , kind and reliable . One must not be judgement and be there to offer support in any way that would be beneficial to the client The individual must be polite , and working and trustworthy
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: I am able to transfer my calm and helpful manner in order to make a difference to an individuals life I am able to listen carefully to the client when expressing their needs and preferences I understand that a disabled person needs to be empowered , to feel respected and dignified
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: Helping an individual in their own home to be able to maintain independence is one aspect that i like about PA work I like making a difference to peoples lives whilst also allowing them to still have freedom , choice and independence
What are your hobbies/interests?: I love to walk outdoors when I am able to I participate in weekly yoga sessions I like chatting and watching TV
