(required): I currently work in the large retail chain Tesco’s and have loyally done so for the past 20 years. I love to help others and received an award from the store last week regarding my dedication to helping those who need it most. I continually shopped for the most vulnerable customers throughout the pandemic to ensure that they didn’t have to take the risk of venturing to the supermarket. Each and every year I gather as many pieces of clothing, toiletries and food items to make up boxes and bags for the homeless people within my local area. I have always been passionate about doing my part for society and feel this job role would be a perfect opportunity for me to fulfil that. Also, in the past I nursed my mother in law for several years when she was suffering with a serious illness. I had to perform all aspects of her care on a daily basis. As well as this I also helped a gentleman in the coalition in Cardiff who suffered with severe disabilities. I was able to provide aid to him in with his everyday needs as well as taking him two and from appointments frequently. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe that one of the most important qualities to have is to always be trust worthy. It’s imperative to always carry this quality whenever working with any type of vulnerable person as they rely so heavily on you. I also believe that you need to be able to distinguish the difference between sympathy and empathy. It’s a difficult distinction to make yet in working with people where you can so easily sympathise you must always choose empathy as it’s the most helpful of the two emotions. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): Always approach situations with encouragement, guidance and reassurance and only intervene on basic daily tasks when truly necessary to allow them to retain independence for as long as possible. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I have always enjoyed helping those around me which is something I have consistently done throughout my life. Yet I have now come to the realisation that I would like to bring this passion into a professional environment. What are your hobbies/interests?: I do a lot charity work including a a sponsored walk in March in which I raised £370 for Great Olmonds Street hospital. I had gone for a temporary job that was unsure if I would be able to obtain yet it ended up becoming permanent. It was 25 years ago and at the time I was I unaware of the procedures I had to follow in order to no longer receive this benefit. I was penalised for this at the time and have had no further issues with anything of this sort since.
