Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have worked in social care for over 20 years, i have worked with individuals and families from a range of backgrounds who access different services. I qualified as a Social Worker in 2003 and worked in frontline services until December 2019, when I took up a part time role in RCT workforce development service, where I support student Social Workers through their degree. I would would very much like to re-engage with individuals and families, as I miss the direct contact that is so invaluable to me personally and professionally.
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I believe creating a respectful, genuine, open and honest working relationship is essential. I value individual rights to access public services and am a strong advocate for individuals who may feel discriminated against. I work within the code of professional practice and fully aware of the need to maintain confidentiality. I have an understanding of services available in RCT and like to promote independence and wellbeing, so individuals can achieve their personal goals and outcomes.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I feel I can support individuals to identify and work towards their personal outcomes, I firmly believe that individuals are the experts of their personal circumstances and have the right to access services, which can enhance lifestyles and wellbeing. I will support individuals in decisions they make, as long as there are no safeguarding concerns but I believe in equality and people having the right to learn from mistakes made. I will empower individuals to lead a full and active life wherever possible but will always ensure safety is maintained.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I am interested in working alongside individuals and families who experience difficulties in their daily lives and I very much enjoy supporting individuals to overcome barriers that are affecting independence and choice. I would like the opportunity to undertake direct work again, alongside my part time role as the practice learning manager and my usual working days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I know the frustrations that some individuals can experience and the time spent away from their main carers is invaluable and I would like to offer my support to reduce some of the stress factors that might be involved.
What are your hobbies/interests?: I have two children aged 9 & 11 and we have a lovely whippet, who we all enjoy walking. I like music, films, some sport and stay in tune with worldwide news too. I am very friendly and chatty and like to see the positives in life.
