Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

I've been working as a PA through Dewis for the last 18 months for ladies with quite different and unique needs. My one lady needed help with everything as she is housebound and quite immobile so I take care of her house, her shoppping, dogs, garden, laundry, cooking, organising and sorting her belongings, administrating her mail, teaching her online skills, dealing with her medication and applying special stocking for her legs. I also do hobbycraft with her as it gives her incentive to do some more on her own and great pleasure. Each lady has different difficulties and I cope with them sensitively and effectively.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

As I already look after two disabled ladies I realise that even their needs are quite different. Both are immobile, but one lady is completely unable to walk but she likes to get out which we have done quite a few times now via a wheelchair and wheelchair assisted vehicle. Its about taking time to find out what I can really do to enhance their lives and being very aware of what the practicalities are and finding ways to overcome them .

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

There are many ways I feel I have made their lives much happier. Sometimes it can be just mental stimulation maybe with a crossword puzzle and sometimes physical by organising something that they just cant do for themselves and creating something to look forward to. Obviously catering to their well being at all times and giving suggestions or advice where needed.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

Its so varied and very rewarding knowing your improving that persons life even in just a small way.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I'm not fanatical about anything in particular but I do enjoy fair weather activities such as walking, cycling and sunbathing. I like to do a bit of decorating and renovation, gardening etc. I like to cater for family and friends so I can cook up quite a nice meal. I love crosswords, puzzles and quiz programmes. I'm a big fan of real life crime stories and snooker. I've got 3 cats (not by choice) they adopted me and they are lovely company. And of course, shopping for bargains, car booties etc. I play piano and enjoy a good book.
