Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

Although I have not had previous caring responsibilities per say. I have been caring for my mum for the past 12 weeks who was terminally ill with secondary breast cancer. Her wishes were to stay at home rather than a hospice. I had to undertake many duties from the beginning just sitting with her watching tv occasionally making tea, to making sure she was safe when walking about her bungalow, feeding her making sure she took her pills when required, making doctors appointments then to personal care to the point she was u able to do anything for herself. Sadly she passed away a few weeks ago at home where she wanted to be. I really miss the caring side of helping my mum live as independently as possible. I realise this is my parent I cared for which I believe is harder to do as I knew how she was before. However I vowed that I would love to help other people to live as normal life as possible as everyone needs help at some point in their lives

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

Caring, understanding, discreet, flexible

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I am a caring person and considerate of people’s needs. I can work closely with the family and undertake any special training that maybe needed. I am flexible and show a lot of empathy. I treat people how I would like my family to be treated

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

As stated I cared for my mum in her final months as she didn’t want to go to a hospice or care home. If I can help another person to live as independently as possible as I believe this helps the quality of life. I think getting to know someone and having a good rapport with them and the family is important and for someone to have the same person to care for them other than different people all the time

What are your hobbies/interests?

I bake cakes in my spare time, for special occasions. I enjoy reading, going to the cinema, walking and visiting new places and meeting new people
