What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

Qualities of utmost important:
Being patient, understanding, helpful, proactive, supportive, punctual, reliable, comforting, companionate but at the same time encouraging and motivate. These qualities, help the person understand that you are there for them, care for them, and help them go their day easier. Earning someone's trust is of major importance, and requires a lot of work and patience, but is rewarding for both, the carer and the person being cared for.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I think I can contribute to the everyday essential routine of a disabled person, by providing help in the daily tasks which for him/her a simple thing can be something very difficult to manage. Providing support while offering guidance during any task helps the disabled to earn confidence about themselves in order to become independent. This is what being a PA is all about.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

The collective work of both the carer and the disabled forms a unique bond between the two unlike any other. Seeing a person you first meet, evolve and manage things they couldn't before through hard work and perseverance is in time the most rewarding feeling in the world. Words of gratitude have a powerful meaning because they are true, so this would be the most appealing thing in PA work for me.

What are your hobbies/interests?

Massaging, taking burdens of others, helping others, volunteering, actively trying to make the world a better place little by little. This is the reason PA work appeals to me and the reason why I have chosen the massage therapist career for 5 years now. Because this line of work is not for everybody, but if you give it your all, the results are life changing for the parties involved.

Yes

Would you like to expand on the answers given above? Please use the box below.

For the question above, my university lessons would be a circumstance preventing me of shift swap or cover.
I am truly trying to go further into the health department/ section, put myself through any needed training, with a great eagerness to learn how to be able to support and help other even further. Being a carer appeals to me and I feel confident enough to begin this career should I be given this chance.
