I have worked under the guidance of a class teacher in the nursery department and reception class undertaking work, care and support programs to enable access to learning for children and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils in the classroom. This role has allowed me to develop my confidence using the welsh language in the workplace. During the past year, I have been a part time 1:1 assistant for a child with additional learning needs, I have found extremely fulfilling. Communicating effectively is essential in this role, I do this through the use of MAKATON. By using MAKATON to communicate I can ensure the child can share wants/needs/feelings and interests and I am able to respond in an appropriate manor. During my time at the school I have attended a variety of training sessions. These training sessions have enabled me to be able to run intervention sessions. Weekly I run ELSA sessions for children in the Foundation Phase department. In order to become an ELSA it is essential to be a patient and understanding person. I plan sessions based on the needs of each individual child. I must deal with sensitive and confidential information and I do so by following the schools policies. In addition to my role in the school I also work in the after school club and run the breakfast club as the senior supervisor. I plan and provide a wide range of activities for children of all ages that attend. LIVE OUT NANNY| 2014-2015 Whilst studying for my CACHE level 3 I worked as a live out nanny for two children aged 1 and 4. This role required me to provide care in the home and to arrange activities that were age appropriate and in line with each childs interests. My daily tasks would include providing meals, drop off and pick-ups at school, activities or groups for the younger child and providing/supporting their self-care needs. This job required working long hours, excellent time keeping and prioritising. Patience and understanding were key for this role. PLAYWORKER| Y BONT | 2014-2016 My first role within an Early Years Centre for children with additional needs taught me the importance of inclusion and adaption. Whilst working with the children at this setting I was able to provide care for specific and individual needs and their interests. I believed I was able to build good relationships with the children through verbal communication, PECSA and MAKATON sign which has been a great attribute for my current role as a Learning support assistant. What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: I am a patient and understanding person, these qualities have been key whilst working with children with additional needs in the past. I have a kind nature and I am keen to make people feel command at ease in my company. How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: I understand fully the importance of independence. I feel that being a PA would be a fulfilling job as I would encourage the individual I was working with in an appropriate way. I have a full driving license which is a benefit for this role. What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: I feel that I would be ideal for a PA job as I have a 6 years experience working with young people with additional needs, I am keen to develop a bond and relationship with the child and family I would be working with. What are your hobbies/interests?: I enjoy being in the outdoors whether it be walking, hiking and running. I also enjoy visiting my local beaches where I enjoy surfing and swimming. Recently I have taken an interest in cooking which has helped me live a healthier life-style. I enjoy exploring new places and do so whenever possible.
