Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

I have been volunteering with The Royal Voluntary Service for 3 years now and I've met some lovely ladies along the way. I'm still visiting one lady that I was first paired with, so I've been with her for the 3 years. They always have interesting stories to tell. My main role is one of companionship but I can help with Laundry, Ironing, cleaning, shopping and a bit of lunch. I love volunteering because it makes me feel like i'm giving something back to the community. I also had a private job with an elderly lady that came home from hospital and was recovering from ill health. I was with her for 8 months.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I think the qualities that are paramount are being a nice person who is willing to listen when they need to and have conversation in equal measures. Being trustworthy is also very important because everybody can feel vulnerable in different stages of their lives so they need to feel like they are with a friend. Just having a bit of a sunny disposition and making somebody laugh can go a long way.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I would try my best to make them feel comfortable. I would listen if they needed to talk. I would be reliable and trustworthy. I would also be grateful of them giving me the opportunity to try and help with whatever they needed me to do.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

It's getting to know people on a more personal level and being out in the community. I think it's also a good work/life balance because I have one daughter who is 19 now but I still love being at home and spending time with her.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I love watching dramas and soaps on the TV. I also donate blood a few times a year... I don't particularly love needles but I do my bit. I enjoy watching films at home or in the cinema. I love the Theater but I haven't been since my daughter was little. I like reading. I love going for walks and I love the countryside.
