For over 15 years I have worked as a Health Care support Worker. My role has been to offer, and deliver support with all aspects of daily living, to individuals who have various needs. Some of the individuals I have supported have mental health problems and some have a learning disability. My role has taken place in community based houses, individuals homes, and I am currently based in a hospital environment. I consider myself to be a confident happy easy going person, who can Manage different situations confidently, and work out side of my comfort zone. I enjoy being organised, and some of my hobbies include long walks, watching box sets, and I enjoy craft activities of any sort.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

There are many qualities that come with being a support worker.
Some which I think are very important are
To be kind and caring
To be honest and trustworthy
To be reliable
To be able to listen and understand people’s needs and wishes

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I have experience of working with individuals of all ages and with many different needs, this enables me to deliver the best way to offer this support. I would also consider myself to be mature, with a family where I take the leading role, and I would say that I enjoy life and have a realistic outlook on things.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I enjoy working with individuals, and knowing that I can make a difference to somebodies life, through offering support with daily living, gives me complete job satisfaction.
