Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job I began my social care career in children's residential services before qualifying as a social worker in 1984. I have worked for both Local Authority and Voluntary Sector organisations in South Wales and South East England. I have supported young people 16-21 years in Independent Living, as well as manage a Mentoring and Be friendly project for volunteer. I have been a social worker in Fostering and Adoption teams plus children and adults with disabilities and processed and supported community care packages for home and residential care. I currently have a DBS check and I am registered with Care Council for Wales.
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? I feel it requires energy, integrity, reliability and a positive caring attitude as well as an open mind is trying and learning new things in order to develop an enjoyment of working together. To be aware of Health and Safety issues so that client and families feel safe and supported when clients undertake activities. Maintain good communication at all times.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? Working with a disabled person requires good communication and understanding and help ensure dignity and respect in maintained. To allow opportunities for a person to purse personal interests without prejudice. I would like to develop my own listening skills and advocacy with encouragement and support for the person to enjoy their interests, hobbies and life, with as much independence as possible. To offer time and support.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? My years as a social worker evolved with an increase of my working week having a high percentage of administration and less face to face work. I would like to redeem the balance and be able to spend more time with clients and be able to assist in practical ways. To help benefit client and new families with this extra support to live a positive life.
What are your hobbies/interests? My hobbies and interests are varied. I like games, sport, my family, DIY, music, reading, films and TV, my dog Seren. I moved house 9 months ago so still lot to do inside and outside.

What days/nights are you able to work, or prefer to work? I can consider hours - day, evening, night Monday to Sunday, so have flexibility and would be able to consider arrangement that would meet the needs of client and my own family.

What geographical area's are you able to cover? My base is Trelwis, Treharris so I can consider Merthyr, Caerphilly, Cardiff and RCT.
How many hours of work can you offer per week? At present time I can consider 10-20 hours but this may change dependant on need or change of circumstances.
