What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: It is extremely important to obtain the quality of patience when working with a disabled person as often life can be extremely different for them and different disabilities need different types of care so its import to have a patient and caring nature about you. It is also important to be versatile when working as a personal assistant because all people with different disabilities have needs depending on their disability but also depending on the person as an individual. Being compassionate and understanding is essential when working as a PA with a disabled person and you are unsure of the struggles they have gone through in the past (just as any one), but life can often be extremely challenging for the person with the disability and their family.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: Due to my patient and caring nature, I am able to aid independence in a calm and respective way, respecting what a person is able to do and what theyre not able to do, helping them to achieve independence at a pace they set themselves. I am able to empathise with the situation that a disabled person is in, due to seeing my father suffer for some years with, house bounding disabilities. Due to this I know how difficult and daunting it can be for a person with a disability to gain more independence within their own lives and within the community. I am a very social person but I am also very good at taking social cues and knowing when a person would like a conversation, and know when its best to be quiet. I am extremely good at instruction, so I think I would easily adapt to the needs and independence of someone with a disability.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: My father, who recently passed away, was a very big part of my life, and due to his disabilities I often had to care for him in many different ways. I grew to love caring for someone and helping them when they were unable to help themselves. This job appeals to me because I am able help people achieve the independence that we all truly deserve and if they are not able to gain complete independency (which my father wasnt), I am able to help them feel comfortable knowing that there are people that can help take care of you.

What are your hobbies/interests?: I have two dogs and this means that I am out every day exploring new places and seeing new things. I like to walk for hours to help myself keep fit and healthy, whilst also enjoying the fresh air and beautiful nature. I am also a keen reader, so when I get a spare 5 minutes I love to read in order to educate myself further on a range of topics. I often like to meet with friends so we can discuss our daily lives whilst having dinner or over coffee, as socialisation is a big part of my life.
