(required): Having worked as a Teaching Assistant for the past twelve years, I have been working for the last three in a Special Needs School. I work daily with children from all aspects of life with all kinds of disabilities both visual and non visual. This includes children with Autism, ADHD, global development delay, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and Visual and hearing impaired. Our aim is to provide them with the life skills they will need to access the community and to educate them to the highest possible standard they can achieve. As well as working with pupils in a classroom environment, I have additional training in the wellbeing sector which allows me to offer support on a one to one or group basis. This includes ELSA counselling support, both sensory and outdoor activities to help improve and maintain wellbeing and pupils self-esteem. Along with my full time job I have provided one to one personal assistance in the past to a young boy with severe autism. 
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): The essential qualities required to work with a disabled person are patience, a good sense of humour, a strong personality and mentality. Kindness and understanding. Organised yet flexible in your approach. All with a calming and dedicated approach. 

 
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I have shown through my work that I can contribute towards the needs of a disabled person. Each day to me is a chance to make an impact on someone elses life and to create opportunities which they may not otherwise be able to experience. By gaining there trust I would hope that this would allow progression and experiences to help them in the future. 

 
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I have 2 teenage boys and have thoroughly enjoyed raising them to be strong independent individuals. Whilst my own children to not need so much of my time and attention now I miss having the opportunity to help them grow and experience new challenges. I like the flexibility of the role and the overall feeling that I will be benefiting others. Having spent the majority of my working life working for other people, I would now like the opportunity to fulfil my time in a more fulfilling role helping others in my local community. 

 
What are your hobbies/interests?: I enjoy walking and try to ensure that I manage at least 10,000 steps per day with an extra long challenging walk at least once a week. I have 2 pet cats but being a dog lover at heart I take a neighbours dog for a walk once a week. I am a Cardiff City football club season ticket holder and try to go to as many games as I can. I regularly go to the cinema, bingo, coffee and restaurants with my family and friends.
