Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

I have been working in retail since leaving school for the last 23 years but for the last 18 months I have been helping to take care of my dad who have been suffering with depression and anxiety. Due to looking after so close to me I've learnt to take time to understand what he finds difficult and motivate him to go shopping with myself rather than have food deliveries, its taken some time but its given me a new understanding how mental and physical health decline can affect someone and what I need to do to keep them independent in own home.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

communication, understanding and taking time to listen to what they want to get done and help them to do it

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

Giving them all the help I can that they still feel able to complete tasks with a little help. To give confidence that daily chores can be achieved. To keep them active and get them out the house for fresh air and give them some company so they don't feel lonely.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I love the feeling that I've helped someone, that they have seen someone and not stuck in the house alone. Its not a job I would have looked at until I've helped my dad and I feel happier knowing that I've cooked him a meal, gone for a walk with him and he's attended all appointments.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I enjoy walking my dogs, swimming and going to visit new places. I'm about to start a computer course in the evenings 1 day a week to broaden my knowledge of computers and programs.
