At present I am a volunteer youth worker with a charity in Merthyr where I help with after school club and half term camps with children aged between 4-12. In this role I have supported the children either in small groups or on a one to one basis. last summer I spent 4 of the 5 weeks supporting a young girl who was a wheelchair user which was really good. I also volunteer with mirus Wales supporting disabled people in the community which could be either male or female.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

Good timekeeping and being reliable are very important. Also having lots of patience and being calm is just as important. It often helps when you can gain the persons trust as it builds a good relationship with the client.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

Having worked with disabled people and young children who are disabled I tend to help them in any way I can which may be reading with them or supporting them with activities of their choice such as arts and crafts or sports.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

For myself it is the enjoyment of seeing a client become more independent and watching them having fun. It gives me a good feeling that I helped someone to become more independent

What are your hobbies/interests?

I enjoy working with children. I like to listen to music and watching sports of most kinds. I like some walking.
