Providing social, emotional and practical support particularly in empowerment and championing the rights of people with mental health and associated problems, through for example supporting to tribunals. Providing support around debt management, budgeting and claiming benefits, as well as daily living skills, facilitating accessing health services, education, training, employment and leisure opportunities and improving physical well-being,  whilst complying with and maintaining all necessary administrative and reporting systems.

• Pre-litigation Officer - On Track Investigations 2007 - 2009. Achievements included - good management of personal accounts within a financial recovery organization. Conducting field visits to clients with outstanding credit card/personal loan debts with some of the major high street lenders. Offering a professional approach designing and maintaining bespoke individual repayment plans with clients by way of negotiation and income and expenditure reports. Working to, and surpassing company targets whilst achieving customer satisfaction to a good standard. Effectively collating client information for the process of filling out pre-litigation reports on behalf of company solicitors, when other interventions failed.

• Operations Controller - Exel Tradeteam (part of the DHL group) 1992- 2006. Key achievements: Effective management of Transport and warehouse operations at a large drinks distribution centre. Maintaining service level agreement as defined by customer contracts. Evidencing my ability to work in a high pressure and technical environment efficiently. Reacting to events and planning appropriately. Budgetary management. Working to and developing key performance indicators. Implementing and reviewing personal development plans. All day to day operational issues, for example – staff management, work allocation plus rotas, disciplinary and grievance, health and safety and absenteeism. Covering the Operations manager in their absence.

• Foreman - Red Dragon Aluminium 1989- 1992
Achievements included:– Effective workforce management. Appropriate delegation and sound quality control evidencing good systems management and customer interface.

• Milling machine operator - Pro Mill Engineering. 1987 -1989 Achievements included: Accurately working from engineering drawings and using computerised systems.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I am a proven team player and leader, who has self confidence and comprehensive knowledge. I am comfortable working autonomously. I have excellent interpersonal skills, I am versatile and flexible. A quick thinker who reacts to circumstances positively, and methodically. I enjoy the responsibility of planning, reviewing and setting goals. I am a self starter, energetic and motivated who looks forward to new challenges. I have integrity, am trustworthy, hard working, supportive and reliable.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I can offer support and not control to an individuals choices whilst being aware of safeguarding by contributing to a persons quality of life which would include promoting safety ,independence and health and wellbeing.
Its important for me to understand the individuals needs through effective communication and without judgement.
I am able to respect others own values, beliefs and opinions even when they differ from my own.
I have a wealth of knowledge through training , work and life which enables me to offer a comprehensive support package .

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

Having worked within the care sector for over 10 years I enjoy contributing to making the lives of others easier through support , guidance and education.
I am currently working as PA with a young man on an 18 month contract which ends soon. Over this time I have seen him grow as a person, achieving greater independence, confidence and developing new skills important to his own independence. These achievements make me proud and give me a great sense of worth.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I enjoy swimming, walking and cooking.
I have two daughters and one granddaughter and enjoy spending my free time with them . I previously run a football team for adults with learning/physical disabilities for over 5 years.
