Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

I currently work part time for Starbucks, alongside university. I study human biology and desire to continue on to further study neurology, and neurological disorders. Working for Starbucks for almost 2 years has been great as it fits my bubbly and adaptive personality, and has enabled me to work in an environment which and strengthened my reliability to work. However, I did work experience in a nursery, which is what I truly loved, I love children and being around them and all the different blossoming personalities! Although working in Starbucks a company priority is not to engage and make connections with children, I find myself making connections unintentionally! The energy children emit is admirable and having the little conversations each day in work makes each shift enjoyable.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I want to start by saying that caring is in my nature. As a student interested and passionate about neurology and human biology, I have always found it in my nature to want to ensure any person who is challenged feels comfortable around me and in no way treated poorly. During school I always engaged with activities which helped bring out the best in children with disabilities (as my school had a class of students with disabilities) these children were some of the loveliest and enthusiastic I had met during education, and their enthusiasm to live life to the best was admirable! I have a positive outlook on life, and I hope that that would encourage children to live life to the fullest and take every opportunities given to them and enjoy doing so. I am very happy to have a very open and adaptive personality as I don’t find any situation uncomfortable, which hopefully this would encourage children to be themselves and love the skin that they are in.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

I would attribute my independence to being a welsh swimmer for my childhood, travelling to Stuttgart, Germany alone to train and compete in national competitions yearly! Independence is so important to develop, whether it be alone or with the help of others. I love activities and I believe that the independence of a person with a disability should be encouraged to engage in activities that they wish to do, whether it be swimming, baking, colouring in pictures, or simply taking a walk! Hobbies are an amazing way to gain independence and enjoying yourself whilst doing so. I would love to watch a person with disability find something which they enjoy to do and be a part of helping them gain that independence. I am comfortable with any activity.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

Knowing that you yourself are able to make a positive impact on someone’s life is amazing, I love being around different people and making connections and friends! I would love to watch someone’s personally flourish and hopefully help someone love to their fullest. Alongside this, I have always been a caring person, which is why I have taken the route in university which I have, I understand fully that some people are challenged and require a little more help than others, and cannot stress enough how this is perfectly fine!!

What are your hobbies/interests?

I have always been an outgoing person, during my childhood I swam for Cardiff for about 9 years, making it to national level. I love to be outside, taking a walk and admiring the nature, for example my favourite place to just take a walk in the morning is roach park and feeding the ducks! In my free time I love art, I paint, draw, anything creative I love, I could get lost for hours doing this. I love to bake, and I also read a lot.
