Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job

I am a qualified journalist with more than 30 years' experience in newspapers, magazines and public relations.
Since 2017, I have worked part-time for the Disability Support team at the University of South Wales, where I provide personal and practical support for students who may need extra help.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

I think it is important to have empathy, understanding;
be caring, kind and patient.
It's also important to be helpful, reliable, flexible and easy-going.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

As well as providing reassurance and practical help with everyday tasks, through my training as a journalist, I can help with any written projects or research, such as family histories, and organising paperwork.
I am willing to help in the garden as well as the home.
I am a good listener and encourage people to talk and share their stories.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

Being able to make a difference to a person's life is very rewarding.
I think it is important for people to remain independent in familiar surroundings and would be pleased to be able to contribute towards this.
I am currently looking for part-time work which will allow me time for my writing and voluntary work, so the flexible nature of PA work appeals to me.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I am a volunteer newsreader on local radio station GTFM.
I published my first book last year and am working on a number of writing projects.
I enjoy singing and often perform shows for older audiences. I am interested in local history and family history.
I particularly enjoy spending time with my family.
