I have previously worked as a Care Assistant within service users houses. Providing personal care, assistance with activities and safe mobility, supporting to maintain the house environment, supporting with nutrition, hydration and medication.
More recently I was assisting a family member with their rehabilitation and integration back into the community after a stroke. Organising appointments and completing paperwork to deadline. Communicating regularly with health professionals and listen and observe so I was able to relay back. Organised daily activities to help not just physically but also mentally, making sure they had a positive outlook.
I am currently a PA to a lady, I support her with the upkeep of the house, food preparation and driving her to appointments and social events.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

To be patient and have an understanding of their needs. To be reliable, punctual, friendly and be a good listener. Treat them as a person, have a sense of humour and have a reassuring personality.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

To give my time to support them with their needs. Provide transport to those who cannot/unable to drive.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

To be able to support people to do what they want to do, to be more independent whether it be in their own home or out in the community.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I enjoy gardening, walking, cycling, swimming, going to the cinema, watching live bands, quizzes, crafts, bowling, bingo, watching sports, cooking/baking, playing in a weekly skittles team.
