I have a vast experience in working with adults. In the past I have worked in care homes, supported living and people's homes. I have experience in working with individuals who live with dementia, mental health, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and brain injury. Currently I am supporting an individual who had a brain injury and my responsibilities include administration of medication, supporting to undertake daily living tasks such as full personal care, meals, snacks and beverages of individual rather than for the individual where necessary. This is done in order to promote independence of the individual as much as possible and to promote their dignity. I use person centred approach, making sure an individual is given choice and respected. I consider myself as a caring person, kind, hardworking, trustworthy, honest and I have a good sense of humour. I enjoy working with people and I feel that I have a lot to give to the community and I always have a willingness to learn new things on a daily basis.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person?

Qualities required are care, compassion, competence, courage, commitment, patience, flexible communication, being creative to achieve results.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person?

Ask what help they need, speak clearly and directly to the person not through a third party, listen well, be aware of their personal space, be flexible, identify their needs, provide any tools or equipment they need to complete simple tasks, show them how to use them and encourage them to use them to enable them to lead as near normal life as possible.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you?

I like to help people giving them the chance to have the same rights and opportunities as everybody and for them to lead as near normal life as possible. This gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

What are your hobbies/interests?

Volunteer work, long walks on the beach, marathon running, football, listening to music, travelling, reading, socializing
