Part-time companion

ABOUT ANNA

Anna is 16 and a lively, pretty young lady. She was adopted at 10 months into a loving home in Pontcanna in central Cardiff.

She has a complex diagnosis primarily from foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, with autistic spectrum and ADHD. Whilst she can appear very normal and engaging, she has difficulties in social interactions and with planning.

She attends a special school and is doing well.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

Caring for Anna can be intense, and the parents have been recognised as needing respite. This will focus on school half terms and holidays.

The purpose of the job is to take Anna out to experience life outside the home more fully, and learn more social skills, whilst giving the parents a break.

HOURS OF WORK

6 hours per week

i.e. 2 days over Christmas and Easter, 1 day over the half term holidays and about 8 days over the summer.

The maybe a view for extra hours.

Inputs will be focused on school holidays. This will roughly break down in 2019 as follows:

23rd July – 5th September

25th October – 4th November

19th December – 7th Jan 2020

 

Flexibility is an important aspect of this job and the exact days to be worked can be negotiated with the parents on a monthly basis.

RATE OF PAY

£9 per hour 

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

 

  • Going to town for shopping
  • Taking Anna to activities such as horse riding or bowls
  • Going for walk in the park or to the beach
  • Supervising meetings with other children
  • Being at home while parents are out, supervising activities and preparing simple meals

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone who is mindful of Anna’s condition and how it affects her
  • Patience and a good sense of humour
  • Someone who is flexible with their time
  • A person who doesn’t mind cats in the home
  • Experience of working with children on the autistic spectrum
  • Full driving license and car is preferable

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period of six months will be necessary in the first instance.

The wage will be paid four-weekly on return of a payslip provided by the employer. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay.
