JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time Personal Assistant

 

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

14-year-old boy with Autism living in the Caerau area of Cardiff requires a personal assistant to support him out in the community.

He is non-verbal, very active and loves going out.  The hours are double handed and the PAs will need to ensure his safety at all times as he does not have any awareness of danger and is sensitive to loud noises.

Some of the things he enjoys are swimming, going out for food, walking around Cosmeston Lake, traveling in the car and listening to music.

 

HOURS OF WORK

6 hours p/w in school holidays only.  You will be working alongside another PA as the hours are double handed.

RATES OF PAY

£9.35 per hour

 

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Support out in the community to activities he enjoys
  • Ensure safety at all times, he has no sense of danger or road awareness
  • Some support with toileting- he will need prompting

 

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Reliable, committed and punctual- he likes routine so time keeping is very important
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy
  • Trustworthy and efficient
  • Car driver is essential
  • Must have experience with working with Autism
  • Please be aware that the family own two dogs

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid four weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
