JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

Personal assistant required working 2:1 for an 18-year-old non-verbal girl with severe learning difficulties to give parents some respite on weekends (and the odd night out)

She can be challenging but this is more the rarity not the norm, she functions at about 10 months of age.  She loves music, clapping, interaction from adults, going for long walks (wheelchair used for long walks).

She has epilepsy but the PA would not be required to care for her on days that she has a seizure however; awareness of epilepsy would be an advantage.

She lives in the Cardiff Bay area.

HOURS OF WORK

12.5 hours available for each carer to work double handed

Hours needed are every Saturday and Sunday, times can be flexible but roughly 10-3 on a Saturday and 11-2/3 on a Sunday.  The odd sitting service is also required.

Also has two overnights a month (24 hours each) to be used flexibly.

RATES OF PAY

£9.35 per hour

£62.64 for each overnight

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Will need support with all aspects of care to provide respite for the family
  • All aspects of personal care required
  • Support with feeding

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

PA needs to be very patient, confident, kind and understanding of someone with severe learning difficulties. Family are looking for someone who in time could support her overnight so confidence is needed.

Car driver is preferable

 

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid four weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).

The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
