Following a stroke, I have been left with paralysis on one side and a speech impairment. I have always been a very independent person and know my own mind. I have worked all my life and my career history includes such things as Biochemistry and working with blood analysis within the NHS. My interests include crafts such as sewing, embroidery and painting. I enjoy watching the Tour de France and black and white movies. PURPOSE OF JOB To support me with my hobbies and interests, getting out and about in the community, and with my physiotherapy exercises/ speech therapy. PLACE OF WORK At home and out in the community. HOURS OF WORK 8 hours in total 4 hours on a Saturday 4 hours on a Sunday (Exact times to be discussed at interview.) You may be asked from time to time to cover for my other PA who works through the week. RATE OF PAY £10.00 per hour ASKS INVOLVED Assisting me with personal care (including toileting) Helping me with my crafting and hobbies. Taking me out and about in the community. Helping me to transfer from my chair to the toilet or car. Pushing me in my wheelchair. Assisting me with my physiotherapy exercises/stretches and also my speech therapy. TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED Over 25, as you will need to be eligible to drive my mobility car. Someone patient and understanding, who is able to empathise. Similar interests (especially crafting) would be an advantage. Someone who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home. A mature outlook on life. Someone who will gently encourage me to remain independent. ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You may be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you. Thank you.
