JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am an 8 year old boy living with my family in Tonyrefail.  I have a learning disability and am non-verbal which means I find it difficult to communicate what I want and/or need.  I am an active and happy little boy who loves going to the park (the roundabout is my favourite) and playing with water at the swimming pool. I love going out but can get easily overwhelmed and anxious when going to new places and meeting new people. I also love looking at books, magazines, letters and leaflets.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

My mother would like to employ someone to take me out and try new things in order to build my confidence levels.  In the first instance we may need to spend time together at home in order for us to get to know each other.

HOURS OF WORK

There are 3 hours per week available to be worked after school and possibly weekends.

Hours maybe split to start with until we start going out together.

RATES OF PAY

£9.00 per hour

Plus Mileage Allowance (if applicable)

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

  • Talking to me and building up a good trusting relationship
  • Encouraging me to get out and try new things
  • Being extra vigilant, as I have a tendancy to put things in my mouth
  • Able to identify signs and act appropriately as I have a tendancy to grab, scram or pinch when I’m excited, unhappy or anxious.
  • Ensuring I am safe at all times
  • Taking me to the park and to the swimming pool.
  • Trips to the cinema, bowling and other activities I will enjoy
  • Reassuring me when I become anxious or worried

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • A driver will be essential
  • Experience of working with autism would be an advantage
  • Someone who is able to stay calm and be patient when I am trying to communicate something
  • Someone who will engage with me and bring me out of my shell
  • Someone who will be able to work flexibly and will also be reliable

ABOUT THE JOB

Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a calendar monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to a probationary period and a DBS (Police) Check.
