DPC1388 Personal assistants Please quote job ref DPC1388 on application. Apply now JOB DESCRIPTION Personal Assistant A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF I am an 8-year-old boy living with my family in Tonyrefail. I am an active and happy little boy who loves going to the park (the roundabout is my favourite). I enjoy driving around, going to McDonalds and eating in general. I love singing nursery rhymes (especially Incey Wincey Spider and the Alphabet Song), I’m very good at finding the YouTube videos that I want to watch, I especially like videos of monster trucks right now. I also love looking at books, magazines, letters, catalogues and leaflets. I have a learning disability and am non-verbal which means I find it difficult to communicate what I want and/or need. I love going out but can get easily overwhelmed and anxious when going to new places and meeting new people. PURPOSE OF THE JOB My mother would like to employ another personal assistant to work together with my present PA as I require 2:1 support. This support is to take me out and try new things in order to build my confidence levels. In the first instance we may need to spend time together at home in order for us to get to know each other. HOURS OF WORK There are 3 hours per week available to be worked after school and possibly weekends. Hours maybe split to start with until we start going out together. RATES OF PAY £9.30 per hour plus mileage for journeys we make together TASKS CAN INCLUDE Talking to me and building up a good trusting relationship Encouraging me to get out and try new things Being extra vigilant, as I have a tendency to put things in my mouth Able to identify signs and act appropriately as I have a tendency to grab, scratch or pinch when I’m excited, unhappy or anxious. Ensuring I am safe at all times Taking me to the park Trips to the cinema, bowling and other activities I will enjoy Reassuring me when I become anxious or worried TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED A driver will be essential Experience of working with autism would be an advantage Someone who is able to stay calm and be patient when I am trying to communicate something Someone who will engage with me and bring me out of my shell Someone who will be able to work flexibly and will also be reliable ABOUT THE JOB Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a calendar monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given. The post is subject to a probationary period and both a DBS (Police) and the Right to work in the UK Check.
