I have Autism and I also have learning difficulties. I can sometimes be overwhelmed by big crowds and busy places which can cause me to experience a meltdown; this would usually happen when I am home as I feel that it is more of a safe place to release the sensory overload. I am very black and white and sometimes I talk with no filter also the word “no” is a big trigger and my mum and dad use distraction techniques instead. Despite this I am a happy, fun loving teenager. I have a good sense of humour. I also enjoy swimming, crafts and horse riding. PURPOSE OF JOB My parents are looking for a PA to take me out on a Saturday to certain activities I would like to try with the guidance from my parents. PLACE OF WORK In and around the community HOURS OF WORK 3 hours per fortnight on a Saturday morning RATE OF PAY £9.50 per hour including mileage where applicable TASKS INVOLVED Taking me to places I enjoy Driving me in your car Supporting me when I’m out Ensuring my safety at all times Supporting and encouraging social engagement TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED A friendly and understanding person is important Someone outgoing and fun Someone who will put in lots of effort to get to know me Driver with own vehicle and business class insurance Someone with similar interests A proactive attitude in looking for things to do every Saturday Someone who will encourage and support me Reliable and trustworthy Experience of working with autism would be an advantage ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You may be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you. Thank you.
