I have high functioning autism but I am like any other teenager and don’t want to be treated differently. I have no behavioural issues and when I’m out I am an angel – the perfect child as my mum says. Of course, with my mum I’m quite different, but what teenager isn’t?! My interests are music, especially bands and going to local music shops like A Strings in Pontypridd. I play online games and pool for a local league. My biggest interest at the moment is going to the gym and getting fit. Being a youngster I am very conscious about how I look and I want to tone up and look good. PURPOSE OF JOB The purpose of the job is to enable me to enjoy time out away from my family to gain some independence. HOURS OF WORK 3 hours per fortnight. RATE OF PAY £9.00 per hour 40p mileage allowance TASKS INVOLVED Taking me to places I enjoy Driving me in your car Supporting me when I’m out Going to the gym Supporting and encouraging social engagement TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED A friendly and understanding person is important Someone energetic, outgoing and fun Someone who will put in lots of effort to get to know me – I want to build rapport with someone Having the same interests will be good ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. My mother will be your legal employer. The wage will be paid every month on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holiday. The successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS Check at no cost to you.
