I have Autism and dyspraxia which affects the way I communicate with and understand people. I struggle with anxiety in social places, therefore find socialising very stressful. I am shy, but still a happy and loving child who becomes outgoing once I’ve gotten to know someone. My triggers are loud, noisy places like restaurants and the cinema. I am bright and have varied interests which include astrology, Science, PCs and gaming. My sense of humour is great and I can easily laugh and joke with people I am familiar with. PURPOSE OF JOB The purpose of the job is to create a calm environment to gain life skills away from the comfort of my mum. You will support me to gain confidence around new people and social situations. HOURS OF WORK 3 hours per fortnight. RATE OF PAY £10.00 per hour TASKS INVOLVED Taking me on a bus to places that need to be familiar to me in my life skills development Supporting me to learn ways to cope with the world around me Supporting me to learn independence Reassuring me when I am not coping well TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED A friendly, patient and understanding person is important Someone energetic, outgoing and fun Someone who will put in lots of effort to get to know me as a person Ideally you’ll have some experience with Autism, but this is not essential If you don’t already have an interest in gaming, PCs, Science and Astrology then being willing to show a genuine interest in learning about these things from me You must be open and enthusiastic about my interests Engaging in specific tasks such as supporting me to write a shopping list and then going to the shop to find and purchase the items ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. My mother will be your legal employer. The wage will be paid every month on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holiday. The successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS Check at no cost to you.
