I have complex needs due to frontal lobe dementia. As a result, my behaviour can become disinhibited and challenging. Because of these disabilities I experience changeable moods swings and can get frustrated and cross but I am never aggressive. I have a strict routine which must be kept to otherwise it will impact on me negatively for the rest of the day. I enjoy watching a variety of sports and I used to be a steward at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea. Because of the nature of my illness it would be beneficial for my PA to have experience with mental health issues, although someone with the right attitude will also be considered. PURPOSE OF JOB The main purpose of the job is to support me to attend groups both locally and in Swansea. HOURS OF WORK 13.5 hours Split over the week RATE OF PAY £9.00 p/h 40p mileage when I am in the car with you TASKS INVOLVED Using your car to drive me to my weekly activities Keeping me company while out and about Reassuring me at difficult times Supporting me with light personal care tasks Any other tasks which might be reasonable asked of you Getting involved in the activities TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED A confident, reliable, patient person who understands how my disability affects me A chatty person who can build a good rapport Someone who understands the importance of sticking to a strict routine Someone who has experience of working with someone with mental health issues would be an advantage as the work will be challenging Someone who is able to handle difficult situations in a positive way Someone who is outgoing and willing to participate in activities A person with a positive commitment to this kind of work A person who can work flexibly as times may vary A car driver with their own car. ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period of 6 months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid every month on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year (worked out on a pro rata basis). You may be required to submit a CRB (police) check and undergo any training associated with the job. Business class insurance on your car is required for this job. The cost of which will be met by the applicant.
