DPM731 Personal Assistant Quote REF: DPM731 on Application Form Apply now JOB DESCRIPTION Personal Assistant A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF I am a young man living in the Merthyr Tydfil area. I have Downs Syndrome, global developmental delay, and I am visually impaired, this means my behaviour can be challenging and inappropriate at times. I like routine and enjoy swimming, going to the park, playing football and doing creative activities. PURPOSE OF THE JOB The purpose of the job is to support me to develop social skills and appropriate behaviours when I’m out in the community. I would like someone who proactively gets me involved in activities and keeps me engaged and interested in the things I do while keeping me safe at all times. This will be quite a physical role and I would prefer a male due to my inappropriate behaviour at times. HOURS OF WORK There are 5 hours per week available in term time In school holidays the hours will increase to 5.5 hours per week and these will be flexible RATE OF PAY £10.20 per hour Mileage: will be paid privately TASKS CAN INCLUDE Taking me out in your own car for which mileage will be paid Supporting me at all times, making sure I am safe Motivating me to try new things and go to new places Responding appropriately to my needs Suggesting and participating in active play Prompting me to wash my hands after using the toilet and other general hygiene needs. I can use the toilet on my own but will require some assistance. TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED A friendly and active person A male would be preferred You will have to be strict with me so that I know you are in charge and don’t try to take advantage of you A car driver/owner You must be patient. This is very important You must be prepared to understand how my disability affects me Someone who can use their own initiative and encourage me to do new things A person who is dependable and a good time keeper ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period of 6 months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay. This post is subject to DBS check (enhanced police check) at no cost to you. You will also be required to attend a Child Protection Training course.
