Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a young at heart gent in my early 70’s living with my wife in Ynyshir. I love spending time with my family and grandchildren and enjoy being outdoors and visiting places that helps me keep my mental wellbeing stable. I have a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder that causes unusual shifts in my mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration. These shifts can make it difficult to carry out day-to-day tasks. Sometimes when I am feeling low in mood, I can get suicide ideation and might not be able to access the community. More recently, I have a diagnosis of Dementia. I like watching historical dramas on TV and enjoy going to the museum, being outdoors really helps me find balance especially gardening.

 

PURPOSE OF JOB

To access the community in my local area or places that support my needs.

PLACE OF WORK

Clydach Lakes, Maerdy reservoir, Porthcawl, Pontypridd, Aberdare to visit town centres, garden centres

HOURS OF WORK

9 hours per week. You will start with providing company to the service user in the home and allow him to get to know you before slowly working towards going out into the community. 

RATE OF PAY

£12.65 including paid mileage where applicable

TASKS INVOLVED

  • access the community
  • To build trust and rapport with me
  • Make sure I’m safe at all times
  • To keep me company whilst my wife is at work
  • Drive to places I like to visit
  • Reassuring me that there are toilets near by

 

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone with good local knowledge
  • A car driver with business class insurance
  • Someone with a good sense of humour
  • To be calm and patient
  • The willingness to learn about mental wellbeing or some experience, although this is not essential
  • Someone who can help me make positive decisions
  • Someone who can communicate well if things are going to change

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
