JOB DESCRIPTION

Casual Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a lady in my early 80s, living in Penarth.  My house is adapted as I am a full-time wheelchair user.  I have a lift installed so I can use the whole house.  I love my garden and with the help of one of my Personal Assistants and a gardener once a week, it is an interesting hobby.  However, another pair of hands would be welcome!

PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of the job is to support me to continue to live as independently as possible in my own home.  I am looking to replace a member of my team who has recently qualified as a staff nurse and can no longer commit to the hours.

PLACE OF WORK

Mainly in my home.

Occasionally there may be outings by car or bus.

HOURS OF WORK

  • 2 hours (Saturday Morning and evening calls)
  • 2 hours (Sunday Morning and Evening calls).
  • Occasional holiday covers for other PAs who work mornings (by mutual agreement).

These hours may be shared between more than 1 PA.  Please state availability on the application form.

RATE OF PAY

£9.00 per hour – subject to review following a trial period.

Any travel expenses accrued through work will also be refunded.

TASKS INVOLVED

Evening calls will include: -

  • Social interaction and chat.
  • Prepare tea or tray for eating later.
  • See me safely to bed and lock up.

Morning calls will include: -

  • Personal care.
  • Social outings (to be discussed).

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone friendly and sociable.
  • Reliability and punctuality is important as nurses call each morning.
  • Someone with basic cooking/food preparation skills is essential.
  • Someone who will respect the confidentiality of working in someone else’s home.
  • A female is required, due to my personal care needs.
  • Someone who is able to work flexibly, and help cover for other PAs sickness or holidays.
  • A non-smoker is preferred.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You may be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
