Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a young Male over 18 years of age and live at home with my family. I am a friendly and happy lad who enjoys varied activities with my personal assistant. I am a wheelchair user and I am unable to speak but communicate through smiling, laughing and using communication aids.

I enjoy making choices with the use of my communication aid, or I may make a sound and point, in any direction to draw attention. I am also partially sighted and wear glasses all the time.

I need someone to look after my needs and manage my abilities.

PLACE OF WORK

At my home or garden, and sometimes when I go out in the van for a trip. I need someone with me all the time.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the job is to spend time doing fun activities with me and providing personal care and ensuring my safety. This will involve managing my medical and physical needs, such as being aware and able to help with any difficulties from my epilepsy and manual handling including using a hoist.

HOURS OF WORK

I would like someone who can work 14 hours a week, who is flexible so that I have help when I need it most. This will include working some evenings, some Saturdays and some Sundays.

RATES OF PAY

£8.50 per hour

 TASKS CAN INCLUDE

  • Planning activities and trips out of the house that are suitable
  • Helping me with my food
  • Administration of routine medicine. Also, being able to give Buccolam for seizures if required.
  • Manual handling
  • Use of a hoist
  • Personal care
  • Managing first aid and epileptic seizures

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone who is reliable and able to cover additional hours if needed
  • A non-smoker
  • Someone who is bubbly and friendly
  • Someone who will engage and chat with me
  • Experience not essential as my parents will support you initially until you are comfortable in the role
  • Someone who is willing to attend an Epilepsy Awareness Training course.

ABOUT THE JOB

Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a four weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to a probationary period and a DBS (Police) Check.
