Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 49 year old man living in Penarth with my parents. In 2000 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. I had three big operations during the next few years and I now have a number of problems such as difficulty walking, sight and hearing impairment, balance, speech and short term memory.

At present I rely on my parents and occasionally others to get me out and about. I have an electric wheelchair, heavy duty manual and a lightweight chair to use in different environments.

PURPOSE OF JOB

Support with preparing a meal and social support/going for a walk.

PLACE OF WORK

At my home and in the local area of Penarth

HOURS OF WORK

10 hours per week Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 2.5 hours per day

Some flexibility with times (e.g. 2.30-5pm) but essentially afternoon

RATE OF PAY

£9.00 per hour

40p mileage allowance per mile

TASKS INVOLVED

  • You will take me to different places to visit. Ideally they will have a café.
  • Some examples of places I’d like to visit –

Llandow Local Car, Motorcycle and Race Kart circuit, Coffee 1 in Penarth, Dyfren National Trust, St. Fagan’s History Museum, Millennium Centre and Norwegian Church Cafe in Cardiff Bay and Chapter Arts in Canton.

  • Ensuring my safety when we are out in the community
  • Preparing meals

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Needs to be trustworthy and confident
  • Needs to be flexible and reliable
  • Someone who would be comfortable and confident to push my wheelchair, where necessary
  • Someone who respects my privacy, confidentiality and dignity
  • Someone who has an interest in the above mentioned activities would be ideal but not compulsory
  • A car owner/driver that holds a clean driving licence

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
