Personal Assistant/Carer

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 9 year old lad living in the St Nicholas area of the Vale of Glamorgan.  I am severely visually impaired with no light perception. I also have scoliosis which means I have rods in my back which are extended every 6 months. I am bubbly, chatty, cheeky and clever. I have a fantastic memory. I am very Independent and am working on cane skills outside of school.

PURPOSE OF JOB

My mum is looking to employ a Personal Assistant/Carer to take me to my group swimming lessons after school, as I require one-to-one support.

PLACE OF WORK

Mostly out in the community/leisure centre.

HOURS OF WORK

Likely to be between the hours of 4.30pm to 6.30pm

Day is yet to be agreed, although it will definitely be a weekday evening.

RATE OF PAY

£9.30 per hour

Mileage is paid at 40p per mile

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Collecting me from my home and driving me to my swimming lesson
  • I need minimal help with dressing; I just need someone to place my clothes ready for me to take and support with my shoe laces.
  • Accompanying me into the water and supporting me with my lesson
  • Encouraging me and working with/listening to the swimming instructors to help me fulfil my full potential.
  • Guiding me to ensure my safety and well-being at all times.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • A person who is dependable and arrives on time.
  • Driver with own vehicle and business class insurance.
  • A person who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Someone patient and understanding
  • A person who is able to work on their own initiative and identify hazards and plan ahead to ensure my safety.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You may be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
