Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a lady in my early 70s, living independently in Barry.  I am a chatty lady with a good sense of humour (wicked in times).  I enjoy getting my nails and hair done and popping out for a bite to eat. I was the first female bus driver in Wales and so many people in the community recognise me when I go out.  I am still fairly independent and in relatively good health, although I experience dementia related memory loss, so require guidance, encouragement and prompting on a daily basis.

PURPOSE OF JOB

To enable to me remain independent and living in my own home.

PLACE OF WORK

At my home and out and about in the community

HOURS OF WORK

I receive 17.5 hours support per week.

There is potentially 10 hours available, to support my current PA.

Shifts available are-

9.30am-midday Thursday and Friday Mornings

1 hour calls Monday to Friday at Tea-time (ideally after 5pm)

PAs will hopefully be able to cover for each other at times of annual leave/sickness.

RATE OF PAY

£9.00 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Supporting and prompting me with personal care (Bathing and washing)
  • Encouraging me to eat and how to best to eat certain things.
  • Accompanying me to café’s restaurant for a late breakfast or early lunch.
  • Preparing an evening meal or snack for me.
  • Providing company and general companionship

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • A friendly, chatty person.
  • A patient person, someone who understands how my disability affects me.
  • Someone who doesn’t mind me smoking the occasional cigarette.
  • Someone who is able to be flexible and cover for my other PA’s sickness and annual leave.
  • A car driver would be an advantage.
  • A reliable person who turns up when agreed, as routine is very important to me.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You may be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
