Casual Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 42 year old woman living on my own in Barry. I enjoy singing as part of a rock choir. I like trampolining, swimming, audio books, cooking, eating out, ten pin bowling, outdoor activities, gardening, visiting places such as St Fagans, short walks on the beach or to the country park in all weathers, going to the cinema, theatre and shopping. I also enjoy going to new places. One of my main interests is learning, speaking and practising Welsh. I am interested in visiting places where I can practice speaking the language, such as Welsh language coffee mornings and I attend the Adult Learning Centre so that I can further practice. I have Autism and quite complex neurological needs as well as being partially sighted.


PURPOSE OF THE JOB

I am looking to recruit a casual Personal Assistant who can cover when my regular PA is on leave. I want someone to help me to maintain my independence both at home and in the community. I want someone who can help me to engage with others (socially and professionally) and to help me develop my communication skills.


HOURS OF WORK

14 hours per week (to be used very flexibly) but can include Saturday hours


RATES OF PAY

£8.80 per hour rising to £9 per hour upon successful completion of the probationary period. Additional mileage will be paid by employer.

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

• Supporting me at home with meal planning and preparation
• Assisting me to engage in activities in the community
• Supporting me to attend Welsh language classes and helping me to practice me skills
• Assisting me with speaking to professionals (medical staff, social workers etc.)
• Assistance with shopping, dealing with correspondence etc.


TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

• Female only due to personal care
• Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
• Flexible
• A creative thinker who is confident in new situations
• Full, clean driving license with access to a car
• Non smoker
• Someone who can speak Welsh at Mynediad level 1 or 2/or someone who is willing to attend Welsh classes with me
• A positive person
• Someone who is quite mellow
• Experience of working with adults with Autism would be beneficial


ABOUT THE JOB
This will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period of six months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four-weekly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay. This post is subject to an enhanced police check (DBS) and training may be required if identified by the employer.
