Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a lady in my 90s living in Penarth. I’ve recently had a hip operation but have recovered well despite having to use a zimmer frame. I’m a Welsh speaker with varied interests. I experience memory difficulties but I still function well both emotionally and mentally. It does take time for new information to be understood and I may ask many questions as I try to absorb what is being said. I am a friendly, chatty and caring person and want to stay in my home for as long as possible.

PLACE OF WORK

Both in my home and in the community as required.

HOURS OF WORK

15.75 hours per week, including weekends – to be shared with other PAs

The shift pattern will consist of some short calls and some a bit longer.

RATE OF PAY

£10 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Assisting me with daily living
  • Coming out with me for a meal or coffee
  • Local walks
  • Shopping
  • Preparing light meals in the home
  • Very basic domestic duties
  • Ensuring my overall safety and well-being when we are together
  • General support in my home and assisting me to live an independent and fulfilled life

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • You must be reliable and flexible
  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home
  • Someone who is easy to get on with
  • Mature and well-experienced in life is preferred
  • It will be beneficial to have an understanding of dementia
  • You must be safety conscious to try prevent me having a fall

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid 4 weekly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.  You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
