Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. *: I have worked as a support worker for 4 years, including tasks such as medication administration, documentation, using hoists, personal care etc. I have worked with a range of different conditions, such as epilepsy, mobility issues, challenging behaviour, dementia and mental health. I am a polite and bubbly individual who is always smiling. I always go the extra mile, by asking if there is anything else that needs doing before I finish up for the day.
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: I believe the most important qualities to have are patience, kindness and the ability to preserve ones dignity. Completing tasks in a person centered manner and great timekeeping are also vital.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: First, ask the individual how they like their tasks to be done, eg if it is an individual with a particular routine, follow that - if it works and the client is happy with it that way, dont change it (eg the order of a personal care routine). When assisting the individual with tasks, give them as much or as little assistance as they need, dont over-support as they could lose valuable skills and independance. I would really follow what needs to be done, in the way they want it done, and in a cheerful manner- Im a very smiley person!
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: After working in residential homes and supported living for a couple of years, I really want to focus on particular individuals and make a difference to their life.
