Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Title (required): Miss.

Town (required): CARDIFF
County (required): South Glamorgan

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have worked with many people with learning disabilities throughout my career. I have been a support worker at a house of 5 people with complex needs. I have also been a manager of children with learning disabilities. I have also been a PA to a young women with learning disabilities and mental health problems. During these roles I have ensured that the service users I supported attended all appointments, supported them to access various things within the community, assisted with finance if needed and day to day living.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I think there are various qualities needed to be a personal assistant to someone with learning disabilities. Punctuality and good organisational skills are important, especially when taking people to appointments. I think that you have to be a friendly person who is easy to talk to and get along with, and someone with a sense of humour always helps in this job role.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I feel I can contribute by supporting the individual, and when I say supporting I mean encouraging the individual to do as much for themselves as they possible can, therefore hopefully ensuring they are learning new life skills. I think independence is so important so I would take a back seat where possible and let the individual do tasks for themselves. I think encouragement and praise is key. I enjoy getting people I support out into the community and assessing different groups (obviously pre covid) but I think this is always really helpful towards promoting independence and self worth. I think I am a good all rounder and can turn my hand to whatever is required from me when working with people with learning disabilities.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): As I mentioned previously I have been a PA before, and I thoroughly enjoyed working on a 1 to 1 basis with an individual getting to know them, their life and their needs. I think its so important to build up a good working rapport with whoever you are supporting and being a PA allows you to do this.
