Title *: Mr.

Address 2: Canton
Town *: Cardiff

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. *: Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. *: I am a sociable and confident person with a good sense of humour. I love challenges and am willing to accept the challenge of working as a personal assistant. I understand the challenges faced by disabled people and am aware that different disabilities affect people differently in their everyday lives. I believe I do possess the values and skills of a personal assistant. I have previously worked in customer care in supermarkets and served elderly people and people with disabilities. I have always enjoyed serving elderly and disabled people and have left the work feeling uplifted. My experience of working with customers with different needs has equipped me with good interpersonal skills, the ability to listen, and the ability to treat people with dignity which are invaluable for the job of a PA. I am a responsible and reliable person with good communication skills as evidenced in my previous work experience as part of the creative team in an advertising agency. I am encouraging and enabling of the team members, and understanding and empathetic to their needs. I am committed to equality and diversity and would like to support my employer in what they want to do. Coming from a culture where family members provide the care for elderlies and persons with disabilities, I naturally am competent in those qualities. I have cared for family members when their mobilities were compromised, supported them with toilet cares and prompted of medication and also prepared their food and bed. Although I do not have any formal training in care work, I am a fast learner and I am willing to receive any training needed to do my job properly.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: A personal assistant should possess a number of qualities, among which I think five are the most important – 1) Being reliable 2) Being professional and 3) Adapting to the needs of the employer 4) having the ability to develop a strong trusting relationship with the employer and 5) Being supportive of others/employers to make real change in their lives. I am generally a likeable person who people can spend time with. I enjoy helping people to live their lives in the way they want to. I can be a companion, but I am also aware that I am an employee and not a friend and that my employer directs the work.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: I am a confident person and I accept challenges and am reassuring to people who need that. I am aware that different disabilities affect people differently and may affect their everyday lives differently. I will be aware of the needs of my employer and be mindful of how their disability affects them. I would like to support my employer to live their lives in the way they choose to and also support them to do the things they want to do and are important to them.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? *: Several things about the PA work appeals to me, namely – job satisfaction, flexibility, varied experience and the challenge of the job. Because I will be directly employed by the employer, and will support for the time they need and tasks can be done well. This may give the opportunity to build a long-term relationship with my employer. As individual employers might need support with different parts of their life, at different times of the day, I can find a job with hours to suit when I am able to work, around your other commitments. There are opportunities to provide a wide range of support for different individual employers, who want or need different things that enables me to work with someone who has the same interests as myself. The job of a PA is a challenging one and I am person who likes challenge and takes one when it emerges. More importantly the job of a PA is a rewarding one. Its very rewarding to help other people and see how that can make a difference in their lives. I feel uplifted when I am able to help people in my family and in my communities, and I believe the opportunity of working as a PA will be rewarding and morally uplifting for me.
