Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Title (required): Mr.

Address 2: Cyncoed Crescent
Town (required): Cardiff

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Computing from Cardiff University and a BA in Business Studies from Sunderland University. I have been working as a Telecommunication Engineer for the last 22 years. For the last 8 years I have been working shifts of 4 on/ 4 off. To keep me busy in my days off I have taken up several jobs over the last 8 years. I worked as a driver for an out of hours GP service which involved taking the GP to house calls and also manning the Reception desk. This involved entering the GP notes into patient’s medical history. I have also worked as a Consultant to a Property Development Company and a property buyer. This involved visiting properties and negotiating a price for the property on behalf of the company. I currently work for an online Solicitors firm who occasionally send me to client’s premises to conduct interviews or help them fill out forms and witness signatures. I’m also a part-time landlord and this has given me ample experience in dealing with local authorities and utility companies.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): My wife has been suffering from Lupus for the last 22 years. Witnessing her going through the ups and downs of this condition has taught me to be empathetic towards people with visible and hidden conditions. Its taught me to be patient and always take one day at a time. A person working as a personal assistant with a disable person must put their needs first and try to see the world through their eyes. My experience has taught me to try to be positive and look on the bright side of every incident.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I have lived by myself from the age of 16 and gained a lot of knowledge through mistakes and trials. I hope to use my knowledge and experience to help a disable person live a smoother life and a more varied life. I have a car and can take them anywhere they like safely.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I have worked for a corporate company for many years. It pays the bills but I don’t feel I’m making a difference to anyone’s life. I think this is what I’m hoping to gain from this role. I read a lot of job vacancies in Dewis site and I found that this person has also has similar interests to me which should make it easier to form a bond quickly.

What are your hobbies/interests?: I have been coaching my sons football team for the last 7 years in the Junior leagues. I also recently joined a veteran over 45s team. I’m a qualified referee. I love going for walks in the woods and parks. I used to take a friends dog on my walks but they have moved away recently. I like to watch a film in the evening as I find it helps me to switch off. I enjoy going to cinema and swimming. I’m a Manchester United fan and go to Manchester a couple of times a year to watch them play. I also support Cardiff city and regularly go to watch them. I love animals. I’ve had all sort of pets since I was young. Animals tend to like me. People always say to me that their pet doesn’t like strangers but they seem to get along with me for some reason. I don’t have a pet at the moment but I’m hoping to get a puppy in the summer. I’ve signed up for Cardiff half-marathon this autumn. I haven’t run it for a few years so need to start getting ready for it and shed a few pounds. I like cooking but my meals never taste the same twice as it depends what I feel like at the time and what I decide to through in the pot or pan. I love trying new things whether its food, new place or new experience.
