Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. *: I have experience of working with young people with learning disabilities and varied behavioural needs through my time volunteering for the Inclusive Youth Provision in Cathays Community Centre, Cardiff. During this time I was partnered with a youth club member with autism. I always made an effort to be a calm, caring and attentive partner to him by listening and showing calmness when I recognised signs of stress in him. He felt more at ease when he was away from the main group in the youth club, so we engaged in things that he enjoyed separately from the others, such as watching films and drawing.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? *: Calmness, positivity and patience.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? *: By engaging them in activities which they enjoy. I think we all have things that we like to do which give us a feeling of security, empowerment and joy. With that in mind, I would listen to and observe that person, along with their other carers to ascertain what these activities were and spend as much time as possible engaging in them together. I believe I can be a positive presence for people with behavioural needs and disabilities by always adopting a calm manner as this will give them confidence with me. I would also aim to gain their trust by showing them that I will be attentive to their needs and help them with whatever they need help with.
