Apply now JOB DESCRIPTION Personal Assistant A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF I’m a 50 year old young at heart lady with Cerebral Palsy. I am very small for my age and you wouldn’t think I was 47. I live in the Llanharry area of RCT with my family and pet dog. I am immobile and non-verbal and rely on others for all aspects of my daily life. When I am anxious or uncomfortable I will express it by being vocal. When I am sad you can tell by my facial expressions. I talk with my eyes. For example, if I don’t like something or don’t want something I will look away. I enjoy music, going out for walks and people-watching. I used to have a good appetite but it has reduced a lot over the last few months. Now I am peg-fed. PLACE OF WORK In my home in RCT, as well as in the local community. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To support my mother with my day to day needs. HOURS OF WORK 2 PA’s for evening and weekend work, each post 28 hours per week. Monday to Sunday – 6pm to 10pm Saturday and Sunday - 10am to 4pm. Applicants who can only do some of these hours will be considered. Flexibility is essential to this post Covering sickness and holidays of the other PA RATE OF PAY £11.00 per hour TASKS INVOLVED All tasks are with a hoist and other manual handling equipment, therefore manual handling training is essential to this post Assisting me in and out of bed in the morning, safely lifting and hoisting me into the bath Dressing me and making me comfortable and presentable for the rest of the day While you are with me you will constantly see to my needs and keep me occupied by singing or talking to me Driving my mother’s mobility car which will include securely placing my wheelchair in the back TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED You must be flexible and able to work different days/times as required An empathetic and compassionate person who is easy to talk to Someone who is understanding You will be willing to cover additional hours if required An enthusiastic and friendly person is important Car driver is essential and you will be confident to drive a mobility car ABOUT THE JOB Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. My mother will be your legal employer. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you. Business class insurance on your car and Manual Handling Training is essential.
